Well, I may be finished with my project by the time class is over, but I could just as easily be in the hallway when school lets out. I am putting in a lot of hours...Tuesday-Thursday whenever I can, so hopefully the extra hours will help me keep up. I am hoping the design will not make the window weak. I guess I will find that out once it us soldered. I can't wait to finish with the cutting and get to the foiling. ;0)

This week I cut all of my easy pieces and got straight to the grinding part. It really helps to clean up the rough edges. There are a few places where there are gaps, but they should be covered by foil and solder. By the end of class I had started foiling a few of the pieces. I should be ready to solder by the end of the next class unless I have some unexpected catastrophe. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thank goodness I remembered my duct tape...really cuts down on the slicing and dicing of fingers during the grinding.

A Work in Progress

Well, this week we started cutting out the pieces for our panel and I realized I have become too dependent on my glass saw...in other words, I broke a lot of pieces cutting them by hand. I am hoping it was just the type of glass I was using. It had a tendency to chip, splinter, and run on score lines I hadn't cut. I should be able to clean most of them up with the grinder. The good news is I have the hard part out of the way and just have straight cuts left to go. Yahoo! Oh, yeah, I also gave a lot of sweat the first two weeks, Wednesday I gave the blood, now I just have the tears left. Here's to hoping they are tears of joy. ;0)

Introduction

Hey! I'm Terri Holley. I teach Special Education at Huntington Middle School. Most of my students do not have access to an art class so any creative experiences they get at school are provided by me. I love for them to create things they will be able to keep and enjoy for years. I also like to expose them to mediums that turn out interesting regardless of their creative ability. I think fused glass will be one of those mediums. I'm not quite sure how I will use the blog yet, because very few of my students can read, but I will figure something out. I'm real excited about this class and can't wait to start creating glass projects.
